So, first off, I want to thank everyone who came out to see me at Oni-Con 2009 for my first artist table. I am truly blessed to have so many people out there who liked my stuff. It's really because of you that I am there and I really appreciate your support. Mandi and I had a blast that weekend.
Ok... so all that went down that weekend. Lol... there's so much, it's hard to know where to start. We got there early Friday morning to set up, but it was a bit chaotic. There was a bit of miscommunication on when artist alley would be available. We didn't actually get our table until about 3'ish in the afternoon. But that's ok. I know that con staff were really working their tails off to get it going and stuff does happen. So, I didn't make a fuss even though there were some other people who did. When, I did get my table, I got a great location. I was right across from the registration desk next to the door. That was perfect. So many people were buzzin' left and right by my table so it was definitely a spot where people could see my stuff. I'm going to try to get a picture of what the table looked like up soon.
And I know a lot of you are asking, did you make a lot of money over the weekend? The answer is YES. Thanks to you guys, Mandi and I more than broke even. We actually took profit home on the whole deal so it was totally awesome. My first huge sale was a little boy with, who I believe to be his dad or older brother(not sure). The boy's name was Matthew. This kid was awesome. That first day, he bought $40 worth of prints, cleaned me out of my frames, and loved the Sonic based stuff that I had out. Scourge and Mongo were his two favorites. Not only that, but the next day, he came back and bought the 11X17 poster size of Scourge! So, all together, he bought $50 worth of my art prints. If you're reading this, Matthew, thank you very much. You totally made my day both Friday and Saturday.
I had more than just one that made my day, though. Later that night, I had a lady that unfortunately, memory fails me on her name, but she bought 2 11X17's of my take on Sephiroth and my picture of Spark(the angel and dragon pic) and she also bought an 8X10 of Karma because she liked my poem. This particularly warmed my heart. She bought the two 11X17's for her son, who I believe she said is around my age.
So, don't think it stops there. The next day after that, I had plenty that went on too. Some time in the middle of the day, I believe, I had a girl by the name of Krystal come to my table. She seemed to like my art quite a bit. So much, in fact, that she came back later that day and bought one of each size of Spark! She has also expressed a lot of interest in ordering some of my other stuff too. If you're reading this, Krystal, thank you so much. I really am lucky to have people like you to support me.
Later that Saturday night, something else awesome happened that I didn't quite expect. So, there is a gentleman and his two kids, who I believe were 16 or so came up to my table. He and his kids had take a particular interest in my art and one had bought a print. Well, we had got to talking about how I got set up and how his kids were in to doing art as well. Then, he told me he was an artist and would like to a trade. Of course, being an artist myself, I was totally all for it. He went out to his car to get his portfolio and when he came back, I was in total awe. His name is Mark Baugus and it turns out that he is a professional artist. His work is amazing. I traded two of my prints, the 11X17 of Scourge and the 11X17 of Sephiroth for a print of a small kid putting a puzzle together of himself and two kids who look like they've just come back from a fishing trip. The two pics are phenomenal and so well detailed. They will definitely be framed and put on the wall soon. I am glad that I got the chance to talk to Mark and his kids. They are excellent people and as a matter of fact, the next day, Mark emailed me and we might be putting together something where we actually go to a children's medical center to draw for some of the less fortunate kids who have serious illnesses. By the way, other anime artists out there, if this is something you're interested in and can easily get to the Houston, TX area, please email or note me.
Oh yeah! Almost forgot! Later that night before closing up the table, I totally met a few people who are turning out to be awesome friends! Two guys by the name of Jon and Josh stopped by and we started chattin' up about the nerdier things in life and I'm gonna do some commission work for them as well. We stayed at my table for a good portion of the night just talkin' about games, anime, and whatever. In fact, they're Houston based so we'll probably be hanging out very soon. Cons and meeting new friends = total win.
So, this brings me to Sunday. Sunday, Sunday... Lol, I totally thought this would be a slow going day. Not at all in the slightest. Business was booming. I got SO many commission sign ups that day. Which, by the way, not sure if this happened on Saturday or Sunday, but I was working on a Mario RPG pic that I plan on posting soon... This guy comes up to me and says "I know you're not done with this, but can I pay you in advance and have you mail it to me?" He's ordering an 11X17 of it! That feeling was absolutely awesome. Something I had barely even sketched up and the guy wanted to buy it already, lol. Anyways, the rest of Sunday was awesome. We actually got a point in the day where Shannon watched the table while Mandi and I went to the dealer's room. We got Mandi a really beautiful authentic komono and I got the dvd box set of Chrno Crusade, which I had been meaning to get for ages now.
At long last, we started breaking down around 4 PM'ish. This is around when we were pretty sure there wasn't going to be anyone else coming by. We packed everything up and I told the con-chairman, Lee thank you for having me. And in conclusion, it was a great con and a total success. Thanks to you guys and your support, I will be back at Oni-Con next year AND... I am already signed up for San Japan next Summer. So, if you're in the San Anotonio, TX area around that time, come out and see me for sure.
Thanks again, everyone and see you around!
PS. I'm up to my nose in commissions right now, but if you would like to have one done, let me know. I'll have pricing up soon after we do a bit of revising!

Oh, btw, with some of the new inking/coloring techniques I've learned, I'll be re-doing the one of you soon.
That is, after I get all these commissions outta the way, lol.
Hope all is well!
